The project to modernize the roads of Goidhoo, Noonu Atoll, has been assigned to the Road Development Corporation (RDC). The agreement to entrust this project to RDC was signed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his ongoing visit to the islands of Noonu Atoll, at a ceremony held to meet with the residents of the island. At this ceremony, the agreement related to modernizing Goidhoo’s roads was signed on behalf of the government by Hassan Rasheed, State Minister of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. Ibrahim Nazeem, the Managing Director of RDC, signed on behalf of the corporation.
The work of modernizing roads in various islands across the Maldives is ongoing. The government has stated that no island will be forced to develop its roads by laying tar. Instead, for islands where local tourism is operational, the government has said that some councils have proposed to keep sand roads while providing vehicles and equipment needed to solve issues such as flooding and road maintenance. Therefore, the government has stated that they will provide such resources to solve problems as desired by the residents.
