Sebastian Lecornu has been reappointed as the Prime Minister of France. He was appointed to the position by President Emmanuel Macron. This reappointment comes just four days after his resignation from the same position. The 39-year-old Lecornu submitted his resignation on October 5th. The following day, President Emmanuel Macron accepted his resignation. However, Macron’s office stated that Lecornu has been given the opportunity to form a new cabinet after being reappointed to the position. Lecornu’s reappointment comes after extensive consultations with political parties.
“I accept this responsibility, as the President of the Republic has entrusted me with the task of passing the French budget before the end of this year, and to alleviate the daily difficulties faced by ordinary citizens,” Lecornu wrote in a post shared on social media. He also noted the need for everyone to work together to end the political crisis facing France. He had initially resigned from the position of Prime Minister due to challenges in passing the budget. There have been significant disagreements among the parties represented in the legislature regarding reaching an agreement on the budget. Additionally, the political landscape in France has heated up at a time when the country is facing a major debt crisis.
Analysts say that Lecornu will face significant challenges in forming a new government and passing the 2026 budget. One of the main reasons for this is the reluctance of the country’s political parties and politicians to participate in any government formed under Macron’s presidency.
