Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that if the United States provides Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles, it would irreparably damage relations between the US and Russia. Attempts to end the Ukraine war through discussions between US President Donald Trump and Putin in Alaska about two months ago failed to yield positive results. Instead, the situation has worsened, with numerous incidents occurring such as Russian drones entering NATO airspace and Russian forces advancing into additional Ukrainian territories.
As the situation continues to deteriorate, there have been suggestions of direct US intervention in the conflict to attack Russia. Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration over Russia’s unwillingness to establish peace. US Vice President JD Vance has revealed that Ukraine has requested Tomahawk missiles from the US to gain the capability to strike various Russian regions. However, it is unclear whether the US has made a decision regarding this request.
In an interview with Russian state television, Putin stated that if the US responds positively to Ukraine’s request and provides the missiles, it would irreparably damage relations between the US and Russia. If Ukraine receives Tomahawk missiles, which can travel approximately approximately 2,500 kilometers, it would gain the ability to strike all regions of Russia. Putin said that Ukraine would require direct involvement of US military personnel to deploy Tomahawk missiles. Therefore, if the US begins to provide such assistance, it would mark the beginning of an entirely new chapter in this war, according to Putin. He also stated that Russia possesses the capability to defend against and intercept such missile attacks, even if Tomahawk missiles are provided.
