Minister of Tourism and Environment, Tariq Ibrahim, has called for collaborative efforts to promote sustainable tourism. He made this appeal in a video message sent in connection with the ongoing celebration of World Tourism Day. Minister Tariq Ibrahim stated that through the hard work of all those involved in the Maldivian tourism sector, the country has become a globally recognized destination for tourism today. He also noted that the Maldivian tourism sector continues to grow and is a significant contributor to economic and social development.

Minister Tariq said that under this year’s World Tourism Day theme, he calls for the development of the tourism sector while protecting the environment, revitalizing culture, and ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach all members of society. He added that these align closely with the policies pursued by the Maldives. According to international statistics, the global tourism sector reached 1.6 trillion US dollars last year, and it is estimated that the number of tourists traveling to different countries this year will increase by 3-5 percent compared to last year, the Minister said. He noted that this growth is also evident in the Maldives today, and that in recent years, along with advancing the tourism sector, the Maldives has done a lot of work to protect the environment.

The Minister emphasized the importance of working towards promoting sustainable tourism. He also called for efforts to preserve culture and the environment for future generations, as highlighted in his message. Minister Tariq stated that under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldives is undertaking numerous initiatives to advance sustainable tourism. He added that the government will continue to invest in infrastructure, innovation, and marketing to ensure that the Maldives remains a sustainable and inclusive tourist destination in the future.
