The President has stated that the Fitness and Recreation Center of M. Mulaku will be completed and handed over to the island’s residents within a maximum of four months. During his meeting with the people of Mulaku as part of his tour to M. Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the construction of the Fitness and Recreation Center in M. Mulaku was a stalled project, which has now been assigned to a government company. He also mentioned that the work to complete the football ground of the island will be assigned to a contractor within this year. The President noted that artificial turf has already been laid on the football ground, however, the government’s standard is to develop grounds that can be used both day and night. As such, the President said that remaining work such as fencing and installing lights will be carried out on the Mulaku football ground.
“God willing, this will result in a fully equipped football ground that can be used at night,” the President said. Highlighting that handball courts are sports facilities being established in many islands, the President said this is a sport played by many citizens, especially women, and one that they are working hard to promote. “We have now decided to implement a program to build handball courts in many islands across different parts of the country. This has become a big project because many islands want it,” the President said.
Therefore, the President said that when submitting the budget for next year, one of the new projects included in the sports sector will be the construction of handball courts. As such, the President said that work on building a handball court in Mulaku will also begin early next year.
