The government has awarded the project for the development of HDh. Nolhivaranfaru harbor to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The agreement was signed by the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdullah Muttalib, on behalf of the ministry, while MTCC was represented by its Managing Director, Ahmed Saudy.
Under this project, an area of 64,992.47 cubic meters will be dredged, a 189-meter breakwater will be constructed, and a 161-meter revetment will be built. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a 65-meter groyne, harbor pavement works, and the installation of harbor lights.
The project, which costs 44.68 million Rufiyaa, has been contracted to MTCC with a completion period of 380 days. Nolhivaranfaru, with a population of 2000 people, primarily relies on agriculture for income. The development and expansion of the harbor space is a great hope for the people of Nolhivaranfaru.
Upon completion of this project, the island will have a spacious harbor to accommodate dhonis, launches, and dinghies. This will fulfill the residents’ aspirations and resolve the difficulties they face in embarking and disembarking vessels.
