
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned the bill for the First Amendment to the Thalassemia Control Act to the People’s Majlis, requesting reconsideration. This bill was passe passed by the 22nd session of the second term of the People’s Majlis for the year 2025, held on the 6th of this month, and was sent for ratification. The President decided to return the bill to the Majlis after receiving some proposals from the Maldivian Blood Services and individuals affected by thalassemia, as well as their families, suggesting additional amendments to the bill.
The President has decided to revise the bill to incorporate amendments that would ensure the objectives stated in the law are achieved as comprehensively as possible, in order to make the services provided to those affected by thalassemia part of an integrated national system. Therefore, in accordance with Article 91(a) of the Constitution, the President has today returned the bill to the People’s Majlis for consideration of these amendments.
