Last week, the UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, violated regulations by going fishing without the required license while accompanying US Vice President JD Vance. According to UK regulations, fishing on both public and private lands requires a special permit. Lammy did not possess this permit, known as a rod license. Fishing without this license is an offense punishable by a fine of 3,400 US dollars. Upon realizing the absence of the license due to an administrative issue, Lammy immediately obtained it. He admitted to fishing without a license and reported the incident to the UK’s environmental agency. He also expressed gratitude for the agency’s efforts in protecting UK fisheries.

The UK has established such regulations to maintain fish populations in its rivers and promote sustainable fishing practices. Everyone over the age of 13 who fishes must possess this license.

Lammy and Vance went on the fishing trip during Vance’s visit to the UK. After completing his official duties, Vance spent time on vacation with his family. Some members of Vance’s party successfully caught fish during the trip. However, Lammy did not catch any. All fish caught during the trip were released back into the river.
