
The Police Cyber Security Operation Center has been inaugurated and the foundation for a new Data Center has been laid. The Police Cyber Security Operation Center and Data Center, established to strengthen the work of the Maldives Police Service, are being developed with the assistance of the UAE Cyber Security Council. As part of the official visit to the Maldives by Dr. Mohammed Al-Kuwaiti, the head of the UAE Cyber Security Council, the first event was the laying of the foundation for the new Police Data Center. The foundation for the Police Cyber Security Center, to be established in Hulhumalé Phase 2, was laid by Minister of Home Affairs Ali Ihsaan, UAE Cyber Security Head Dr. Mohammed Al-Kuwaiti, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.
The Maldives Police Service states that the Police Data Center being developed with UAE assistance is a facility equipped with the most modern resources. The police said that with this center, police operations will be aligned with changing times. They also said that this facility will bring significant changes to crime prevention and law enforcement efforts. After laying the foundation, the newly established Police Cyber Security Operations Center in the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building was inaugurated. This center was also inaugurated by Home Minister Ali Ihsaan, UAE Cyber Security Council Head Dr. Mohammed Al-Kuwaiti, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.
The newly established Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC) is designed to serve as the country’s “shield and watchtower” in the cyber domain, identifying, responding to, preventing, and reducing digital space threats, according to the police. In his speech at the ceremony, Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen said that this center, developed with the assistance of the UAE government, demonstrates the relationship between the two countries. The Commissioner also stated that in this era, national security and safety are not only based on the work done by the police but also on the ability to face the invisible threats of cyberspace.
At the ceremony, the Commissioner thanked Minister Ali Ihsaan for the assistance provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs in carrying out this work. After the ceremony, UAE Cyber Security Head Dr. Al-Kuwaiti met with senior police officials to discuss efforts to strengthen the field.d. While the UAE Cyber Security Chief is visiting the Maldives, he also visited last August. During that trip, he paid a visit to the President and held discussions on strengthening ties and facilitating more opportunities and training in the field of cyber security between the two countries.
Strengthening the cyber security sector is a high priority for the government. As such, a separate agency called the National Cyber Security Agency has been established and has begun its operations.
