Six Lebanese soldiers were killed in a powerful explosion while inspecting and safely dismantling weapons in an arms depot.

In a statement, the Lebanese army said they are investigating the cause of the explosion in the southern city of Tyre. Some security sources said the explosion was caused by weapons used in the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Tyre.

Israel launched severe attacks targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon last year. This was in response to Hezbollah’s attacks on Israeli military positions near the regional border, which began as support for Gaza after Israel’s aggressive attacks on Gaza starting October 7, 2023.

An agreement to cease hostilities between the two parties was established in November 2024 with U.S. assistance. Under this agreement, the Lebanese army is required to confiscate weapons held by groups other than the army. In return, Israel agreed to stop attacks on Lebanon.
