Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and Alia Investments have signed an agreement to establish a Yamaha service center at Kulhudhuffushi City Port. The agreement was signed by MPL’s CEO Mohamed Rishwan on behalf of the company, and Alia Investments’ Managing Director Alau Ali on behalf of their company. Speaking after signing the agreement, MPL’s CEO Mohamed Rishwan said that until now, the port’s main activity has been bringing containers to the Maldives and exporting them to commercial harbors.
He mentioned that with the increase in the company’s ports across different parts of the Maldives, some of the new activities include starting logistics operations and expanding sea-related work. He noted that this work would contribute to increasing the company’s revenue.
“When we started port operations in the north, a very important component was missing, especially in in Kulhudhuffushi. We have a harbor, and we often receive many requests for various services from people in that area. However, we are very limited. We have a warehouse. We have engineering services there. We can maintain land vehicles. But with a quay wall for maritime work, and being connected to the sea, we always receive these requests,” the CEO said. Alia Investments’ Managing Director Alau Ali said that they have been working on this for some time, and this work marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between the two parties. “We have high hopes as well. This is a beginning. We also hope that this will become a long-lasting, permanent relationship,” Alau said.
