The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has hinted that some cities scheduled to host the FIFA World Cup next year in America might be changed. Trump said he discussed this matter at the Oval Office last Thursday. “If we find a city that’s not safe, we’ll move the matches to another location,” Trump said. However, Trump has not yet specified which cities he does not want to host matches.

However, AFP speculates that out of the 11 American cities scheduled to host matches, San Francisco and Seattle are likely to be canceled. These two cities are the ones that most strongly oppose the policies of Trump’s Republican Party and are controlled by Democrats in America. Especially regarding Trump’s immigration policies. However, FIFA, the world’s main football governing body, has not indicated that the President or the government has the authority to change match venues. AFP also reported that their attempts to obtain a statement from FIFA regarding this matter have been unsuccessful.

After taking office for the second time, Trump has been actively participating in sporting events.
