Preparations are underway to transform the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ into a four-lane road and develop it to modern standards. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced on February 27th of this year that the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu would be developed to the most modern standards. The project was assigned to MTCC on April 9th. The northern outer road of Male’ is a busy area with many important government and private offices, banks, and shops, as well as being a crucial area for arrivals and departures from Male’. It is a congested area where many people travel daily. MTCC has already completed the Environmental Impact Assessment required for the work on this road.

To carry out the modern modernization of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, one side of the road has been closed from today until October 13th. The road will be closed from the Travelers’ Market to the Official Jetty. The City Council’s announcement also noted that the lagoon on that side would be closed. Additionally, the announcement stated that the road in the Fish Market area would also be closed to traffic during peak hours.

The government has decided to develop a 830-meter stretch from the Hulhumale’ Ferry Terminal to the Fish Market in the north of Boduthakurufaanu Magu by laying tar. The road is being developed to the most modern standards, widening it to include two lanes in each direction. This plan also includes moving the outer seawall outwards to accommodate the road widening. The northern Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project is divided into three segments. While the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ has been assigned to MTCC as a separate project under the Male’ road construction work, all roads in Male’ and Vilimale’ will be developed to modern standards with grant aid from the Chinese government. The feasibility study for this project has been completed, with practical work set to begin this work set to begin this year.

MTCC has been contracted to complete this work within 1 year and 3 months. The project has been awarded to the company for 144.5 million Rufiyaa.
