Women’s team well-prepared for Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers: Coach

The head coach of the Maldives women’s team, Guraish Afrah, has stated that the team is very well-prepared for the Under-16 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers. In a special interview given to PSM News regarding the ongoing preparations for the tournament, Guraish said he is satisfied that the Maldives women’s team includes experienced players as well. “It can be said that the team is very well-prepared. With the inclusion of three players from the senior team, these players played a significant role in winning the silver medal for the Maldives in the last SABA tournament,” the coach said.

The coach mentioned that the preparation of the under-16 women’s basketball team has been ongoing since 2023, and they have been preparing for this tournament for the past nine weeks. Guraish noted that tryouts for team selection were held during Ramadan, and training sessions began after Eid following the end of Ramadan. The Maldives women’s team’s first match is scheduled for today at 5:30 PM.

Guraish said that he is not entirely satisfied with the training due to the lack of resources in preparing for this tournament, and if more resources were available, the team could have been prepared more comprehensively and better. The women’s team coach, Guraish, expressed his desire for as many supporters as possible to come and watch the matches and encourage the Maldivian players.
