Temporary changes have been made to the parking regulations at Hulhule due to the opening ceremony of the new terminal at Velana Airport. Currently, vehicles are being parked in two areas of Hulhule. These are the parking zone on the eastern side, near the bridge highway, and the western parking zone, which is currently commonly used by employees and the general public visiting the airport. Of these two parking zones, it has been decided to temporarily close the western parking zone. These changes are being implemented in connection with the decision to hold the airport opening ceremony in the western parking zone of Hulhule.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates Velana Airport, has stated that from Thursday, parking any four-wheeled vehicle in the eastern parking zone will be prohibited, and this area will be used exclusively for motorcycle parking. MACL has also requested that owners or caretakers of four-wheeled vehicles parked in this zone before this date remove their vehicles. MACL warned that if vehicles are not removed, they will be towed with police assistance.
Additionally, parking any land vehicle in the western parking zone has been prohibited. MACL stated that after 6:00 PM on Thursday, they will work with the police to clear and remove vehicles from that area. MACL said they will later announce a date when parking will be allowed again in these parking zones. The company has apologized for any inconvenience caused to those who park in these zones due to these changes.
Final preparations are underway for the opening of the new terminal at Velana Airport. This includes road construction in the area and landscaping work around the terminal. MACL is also preparing for the opening ceremony.
