WAMCO to Revise Waste Collection Rates for SMEs

The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced its decision to reduce waste collection fees for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), effective from the 1st of February.

This decision follows a directive from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to restructure the existing waste collection service bands and lower the associated costs. The President’s decision aims to address the concerns raised by the SME community regarding the financial burden of waste management services.

In a formal press release, WAMCO stated that the revised, more affordable rates for SMEs will be implemented starting February 1. The corporation is currently in the process of finalizing new service bands specifically designed to alleviate the financial pressure on these businesses. WAMCO further noted that the details of these newly established categories will be publicly announced in the coming days.

The issue was initially brought to the President’s attention during a series of consultative meetings held with the public and business owners. During these discussions, representatives from the SME sector highlighted the high costs of waste disposal as a significant challenge and requested a sustainable solution. In response, President Dr. Muizzu instructed WAMCO to review its pricing structure and implement the necessary changes to support the growth and sustainability of small and medium businesses.
