Velana International Airport is the most important pillar of Maldives’ economic independence: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Velana International Airport is the most important pillar of Maldives’ economic independence.

He said this while delivering a speech at the ceremony to inaugurate the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that he decided to expedite the work on the new passenger terminal of Velana International Airport and open it in conjunction with this year’s Independence Day for a very special reason. He explained that economic independence is crucial in maintaining the country’s independence. The President also stated that Velana International Airport is the most important pillar of economic independence, and the newly opened terminal is the most important pillar of the airport.

The President said that with the new terminal, the Maldivian economy will expand and progress. He emphasized that Maldivians need to work together on such matters and that every citizen should always prioritize the nation over personal interests.

“We must resolve to move forward together, rolling up our sleeves. If we proceed in this manner, we can achieve many such developments. Our country will progress both structurally and meaningfully. Our minds will develop. The holistic development that I always talk about will be easily achievable for us,” said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The President stated that the new terminal of Velana International Airport marks a new beginning and that the Maldives will advance many steps forward with this.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed gratitude to all parties who worked to complete the new terminal ahead of schedule, as well as to the presidents of the two governments involved in the terminal’s development. The President also thanked the Saudi Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund, Abu Dhabi Fund, and OPEC Fund for their assistance in the terminal’s development.
