In his Presidential Address this year, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the Maldives’ first interactive immersive museum will be developed at the Usgekolhu area and is scheduled to open within the current year. This initiative is a key component of the government’s policy to preserve Maldivian heritage and ensure its transmission to future generations.
Furthermore, the necessary research for the inclusion of the Maldives’ coral stone mosques in the UNESCO World Heritage List has been completed and officially submitted. Efforts to preserve heritage are also underway in historically significant islands such as Utheemu and Baarah. To revive declining traditional Maldivian crafts, training programs aligned with national certification standards have been launched.
The President also highlighted that the construction of centers dedicated to teaching traditional crafts will commence this year in Thulhaadhoo, Rinbudhoo, and Gadhdhoo. Additionally, a “National Respect Campaign” will be conducted to shape the conduct and character of Maldivians.
