USAID freeze puts millions of lives at risk: Bill Gates

Bill Gates has expressed deep concern over Donald Trump’s decision to dismantle USAID. In an interview with PBS, Microsoft founder Bill Gates said that Trump’s sudden decision to halt the independent agency, reduce its staff from over 10,000 to 300, has put millions of lives at risk. Trump has asked Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to reconsider cutting U.S. foreign aid spending.

In a discussion with journalist Walter Isaacson on the Amanpour & Company YouTube channel, Gates said he hopes that a large part of it can be reversed and protected. Gates noted that due to Trump’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), “over 20 million people are living using HIV medication.”

“I know many of those workers, I know that work,” he said, adding that a very high percentage of it is something that every taxpayer would be proud of.
