US troops have been withdrawn from two US military bases in northeastern Syria. The US has pulled out troops from al-Wazir and Tal Baidar. As a result, only the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are now operating in those areas. This is the fourth US military base in Syria to be evacuated since Donald Trump took office as US President. Trump plans to reduce the eight US military bases in Syria to just one. Under this effort, the number of US troops in Syria is expected to be reduced from 2,000 to 500.

SDF commander Mazloum Abdi has said that if the US military presence in Syria decreases, the influence of the terrorist group ISIS in the region is likely to increase. He said that the weakened ISIS group is working to reorganize and strengthen itself. He said that ISIS has begun to operate and carry out attacks in some areas such as former military bases and Damascus.
