Manchester United, the famous club, has been heavily mocked by supporters after losing a match in Malaysia against a team of selected players from ASEAN countries. The team’s coach, Ruben Amorim, who finished 15th out of 20 teams in the recently concluded English Premier League season, said that the mockery is something he considers good. United lost to a single goal scored by Myanmar forward Maung Maung Lwin in front of 72,500 people at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Malaysia. Due to having to play in temperatures of around 30 degrees, many United players appeared tired and sluggish. Approximately 25 players were used in the match.
Coach Ruben Amorim said after the match that mockery is something they heard after every match they lost in the Premier League. And in a way, it’s good that it happened in this match as well. The coach said that since he took over the team last December, United has been producing poor results, which is a reason for the increasing dissatisfaction among supporters. However, he hopes that all supporters will stand united behind the team when the new season begins. United finishing 15th with 42 points last season marks the first time the team has finished so low in the Premier League since 1974.
United’s current tour of Asia is expected to generate a profit of 10 million dollars. Although United is in financial difficulties, the team is working on selling some current players and using the money to strengthen the team for the next season. However, a Saudi Arabian club has offered 100 million euros to buy the team’s captain, Bruno Fernandes. United has not yet commented on this matter.
