The United States Department of State has announced a temporary suspension of visa services for immigrants hailing from 75 different countries. This measure is being implemented as part of the administration’s broader initiative to enforce more stringent immigration policies. The list of affected nations includes Somalia, Iran, Russia, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Yemen, Thailand, and Brazil. According to a spokesperson, this suspension is set to take effect starting January 21. An official memorandum released by the State Department indicated a policy shift aimed at ensuring that U.S. taxpayer funds are not utilized for the support of foreign immigrants. The U.S. government maintains that visa issuance for these nations will remain suspended until it can be guaranteed that public resources are not being allocated for such purposes.
Since President Donald Trump took office in January of the previous year, more than 100,000 previously issued visas have been revoked. This period has also seen the introduction of increasingly rigorous immigration protocols. Furthermore, during last November, the President reiterated his commitment to curbing immigration from developing nations into the United States.
