Two Maldivians Arrested for Alcohol Trafficking

Four individuals have been taken into custody in Malé on allegations of possessing, consuming, and distributing alcohol. The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on the 10th of this month.

During the operation, authorities intercepted and searched the four suspects in the Fishermen’s Park area, leading to the discovery and seizure of 23 bottles of alcohol.

Following their production in court for a remand hearing, Mohamed Naish (43) of G. Happyside, Malé, and Ikram Abdul Rahman (31) of Handhaan, Lh. Hinnavaru, were ordered to be detained for a period of 10 days. The remaining two suspects were released by the court under specific conditions.

The Maldives Police Service is currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
