Two Arrested in Malé with Significant Quantity of Narcotics

Two individuals have been taken into custody in Malé following a police operation that led to the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics. According to the Maldives Police Service, the arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence.

The operation, carried out on the 20th of this month, involved a court-authorized search of a residence in the Galolhu district. During the raid, police discovered a substantial amount of drugs along with a sum of Maldivian currency.

The suspects have been identified as 36-year-old Amjad Riqab from Bulafaru, GA. Vilingili, and 28-year-old Mohamed Naif from Morning Star, Sh. Noomara. Authorities stated that the provisional weight of the narcotics seized during the operation is 266.29 grams.

Upon being presented to the court for a remand hearing, the judge ordered Amjad Riqab to be detained for five days, while Mohamed Naif was ordered to be remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial.

According to the court order, the narcotics were discovered within the residence shared by the two suspects. The police further noted that both individuals have prior records and have previously faced charges related to drug trafficking.
