The military corvette gifted to the Maldives by the Turkish government, TCG Volkan (P-343), has arrived in the Maldives today. This Doğan-class missile corvette is currently stationed in the Malé area.
This corvette was gifted to the Maldives under an agreement between the two countries with the aim of enhancing defense capabilities. Since President Muizzu assumed office, he has placed great emphasis on strengthening the capabilities of the Maldivian military, and has also acquired military drones and other vessels.
Although this is a 45-year-old corvette, it was refurbished last year and reclassified as a test and training vessel. Maldivian soldiers have received specialized training in Turkey to operate this corvette. The vessel will be officially inaugurated in a special ceremony to be held next week.
President Muizzu has stated that the Maldives is a proud and independent nation, and that every square inch of this country will be protected by Maldivians themselves.
