The military warship TCG Volkan (P-343), gifted to the Maldives by the Turkish government, has arrived in the country today. This Doğan-class missile boat is now stationed in the Mal the Malé area. The vessel was donated to the Maldives under an agreement between the two countries to enhance defense capabilities. Since President Muizzu assumed office, he has placed great emphasis on strengthening the capabilities of the Maldivian military, also acquiring military drones and other vessels.

Although this is a 45-year-old vessel, it was refurbished last year and reclassified as a test and training ship. Maldivian soldiers have received specialized training in Turkey to operate this warship. The vessel will be officially inaugurated at a special ceremony to be held next week. President Muizzu has stated that the Maldives is a proud, independent nation and that Maldivians themselves will protect every square inch of this country.
