U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Venezuela, stating that further military action may be taken if the Venezuelan government fails to cooperate with U.S. demands.
This warning follows a recent U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, during which President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were detained and transported out of the country. Trump further asserted that the United States would oversee the administration of Venezuela until transitional arrangements are finalized.
Emphasizing that additional strikes would be imminent if the Venezuelan government obstructs U.S. efforts to “reform” the nation, Trump also extended this cautionary stance to other Latin American countries. He indicated that similar measures could be considered against nations such as Colombia and Mexico if they fail to effectively curb the flow of illegal narcotics into the United States.
Furthermore, President Trump stated that rather than holding immediate elections to establish a new government, the focus would be on working with the current Venezuelan administration to address the drug crisis and revitalize the country’s oil industry.
Following his arrest, Maduro was reportedly taken to a detention center in New York. The Venezuelan government has characterized the incident as a kidnapping of their president. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan military reported significant casualties among both military personnel and civilians during the operation, reaffirming their commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty.
