The American President Donald Trump has warned that the United States might send troops to Nigeria, a West African nation, and launch powerful attacks following the killing of many Christians there. According to Trump, attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria have resulted in the deaths of many followers of the faith. In response to a journalist’s question, Trump stated that it might be absolutely necessary to stop these killings, even if it means sending American troops to Nigeria.

Trump made these remarks after the American government had already warned that military action might be taken against Nigeria if its government fails to stop the killing of Christians. In connection with the murder of Christians, the United States government has included Nigeria on its list of countries requiring increased attention, claiming there is no religious freedom in the country. Other countries currently on this list compiled by the American government include China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, and Pakistan.

While some international human rights organizations have stated there is no evidence that militant groups in Nigeria specifically target Christians, the Nigerian government has also denied these allegations made by the United States.
