To ensure food security in the Maldives and reduce reliance on imports, the government is undertaking significant efforts to expand the agricultural industry. Over the past two years, hydroponics systems and greenhouses have been established across various islands, with more than 470 farmers receiving specialized training. Furthermore, to modernize and advance the sector, a grant program titled “Dhanduveri Manfaa” (Farmers’ Benefit) worth MVR 15.1 million has been launched, facilitating better market access for local produce. In addition, the government has opened investment opportunities for the private sector to ensure the sustainable development of this industry.
