
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stated that there are favorable opportunities for Maldivian businesses to invest in Sri Lanka. He made this statement during a joint press conference held after official discussions with him as part of his current visit to the Maldives. Speaking in Sinhala at the press conference, the Sri Lankan President expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received upon arriving in the Maldives. Referring to the relationship between the two countries, the Sri Lankan President noted that as neighboring nations, the Maldives and Sri Lanka share many cultural similarities. In this regard, he highlighted the connection between the origins of the Sinhala and Dhivehi languages.
In his speech, the Sri Lankan President emphasized that Sri Lanka offers a favorable environment for business and investment, stating that investors will always be welcomed in the country. He stressed the importance of working to strengthen ties between the two nations in various sectors. He highlighted opportunities for investment in important areas such as fisheries, urban development, and ICT in Sri Lanka, inviting Maldivian entrepreneurs to invest in these sectors. Given that the Maldives is internationally recognized in the tourism industry, the Sri Lankan President also extended an invitation to Maldivian businesses to invest in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, suggesting collaboration and sharing of experiences.
In his remarks, he stated that efforts to combat illegal fishing in the region would continue uninterrupted, and that they would work together on numerous initiatives to ensure regional security and safety. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has extended an invitation to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to make an official visit to Sri Lanka at his convenience. During the Sri Lankan President’s official visit to the Maldives, two agreements have been signed between the two countries. Additionally, high-level consultations have been held between the two nations to collaborate in various fields.
