The new international swimming pool established by the Swimming Association of Maldives will become a venue for world-class swimming competitions, said Minister of Sports and Fitness Abdullah Rafiu. He said this in a special interview with “PSM News” after inspecting the progress of the new swimming pool work. Referring to how the work began, the minister said that within the first week of taking office, he consulted with various agencies to start the work.
“This included discussions with HDC, and the site was previously occupied by heavy vehicles of a company that was here before. After that, the site was completely cleared and handed over to the party now doing the work,” Rafiu said. The minister has said that the progress of this work to this point is a very big advancement. He has also said that looking at the past year, the work is now progressing rapidly, and a large part of the pool will be completed soon without much delay. “The materials needed to lay the pool have now been brought to the site. God willing, the base will also be laid in the pool building within this week,” Rafiu said.
This is a swimming pool being designed to accommodate 1,500 people at once. As the place is being designed with the facilities needed for swimming training, it will also include a high jump facility.
