Renowned manager Jurgen Klopp has clarified that he had no involvement in Xabi Alonso’s dismissal from Real Madrid. Klopp made these remarks in response to journalists’ inquiries regarding rumors linking him to the managerial position at the Spanish club. “My phone does ring, that’s true. But it’s not because Real Madrid is calling. I haven’t received any call from them, and I have nothing to do with Alonso’s departure,” Klopp stated.
After a highly successful tenure at Liverpool following his time with Borussia Dortmund, Klopp is currently taking a break from coaching. He is presently serving as the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. Despite media reports suggesting that Klopp would seriously consider an offer from Real Madrid, he maintained that his current focus remains entirely on his role at Red Bull. He also took the opportunity to speak highly of Alonso.
“When you look at Real Madrid, one thing is certain: a legend like Alonso went there and was unable to succeed in the job. This suggests that something is fundamentally wrong there. In my view, Alonso is an exceptional coach, and I hope he achieves great success in the near future. These situations serve as a reminder that managers are not given much time. If the demands of Real Madrid are not met quickly, this is what happens. Another observation at Real is that when a top coach leaves and a successor tries to implement a different set of rules immediately, it often fails to yield results,” Klopp explained.
When asked if Alonso might manage his former club, Liverpool, Klopp remarked that it seems unlikely Alonso would take such a step the very day after leaving Real Madrid.
“The managerial market could undergo significant changes in June. Therefore, that is a difficult question to answer at this moment,” Klopp added. Alonso was dismissed from Real Madrid after only six months in charge, following a string of poor results and reported friction between him and several senior players.
