The meanings of Maldivian nationalism need to be re-established: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that efforts need to be made to re-establish the meanings of Maldivian nationalism among Maldivians today. The President said this in a special a special address he gave on the occasion of the National Day for Reviving and Promoting Maldivian Nationalism, which is being celebrated at the national level today. He said that the resolve for this day should be to become a person who practices the noble principles of Islam and respects the solid characteristics of Maldivians, adding that this would lead to spiritual and psychological purity, as well as becoming a hardworking, cooperative, skilled, and civilized person.

The President noted in his address that efforts need to be made to re-establish the meanings of Maldivian nationalism among Maldivians today, and that this requires scholarly principles scholarly principles in this era. He said that, with Allah’s will, Maldivian nationalism will be taught based on scholarly principles, and Maldivian experiences and skills will be preserved for the future. He also stated that Maldivian heritage will be maintained and managed by incorporating modern technology and economic thinking. Additionally, the President said that Maldivian culture will always be reformed through the noble religion of Islam, closing bad doors and welcoming good things.

The President said that when people live as a nation, they have a standard by which they determine right and wrong, and that the culture and traditions of that society are shaped according to the principles they accept or their worldview. He highlighted that the standard Maldivians use to determine right and wrong is the noble religion of Islam, and stated that the Maldivians’ acceptance of Islam was the most beneficial revolution for Maldivian nationalism.

The President noted that it is very important to reflect on the good coincidence that the Day of Reviving and Promoting Nationalism falls within the month of Ramadan this time. He said that the role of Islam in Maldivian nationalism is to reform the ways Maldivians live and their customs, or Maldivian culture, to fit within the boundaries of Islam. This includes beginning to rely on Allah in terms of faith, ending human sacrifices in various names in terms of humanity, defending and elevating human dignity, building mosques, going to the five daily prayers, respecting leaders, and the prevalence of trustworthiness, the President said.

The President highlighted that Maldivians began to be recognized as brothers, caring for each other, and showing sympathy, which earned praise from foreign writers. He noted that peace was established throughout the country, and even when foreigners attacked the Maldives, the country was liberated by fighting justly in defense of the noble religion of Islam. The President said that Maldivian nationalism is a reality rooted in the united thinking of Maldivians for thousands of years. This is because there is no period in history when the Maldivian land was empty, and every group that crossed the Maldivian sea saw Maldivians living on these islands, he explained.

The President stated that nationalism is the experiences a group of people have as they begin to live in a place, as their lineage increases and spreads, and the thought they put into staying in that place for tomorrow from those experiences. He said that today is a special day in the national history of the Maldives, as it is celebrated as the Day of Reviving and Promoting Maldivian Nationalism, and because Maldivian nationalism is the main foundation for Maldivians to remain in this country.

The President concluded his special address on the occasion of the Day of Reviving and Promoting Maldivian Nationalism by calling for a resolution to become a person who practices the beautiful principles of Islam and respects the solid characteristics of Maldivians. He prayed to Allah to maintain the Maldives as a prosperous and happy nation where spiritually and psychologically pure, hardworking, cooperative, skilled, and civilized citizens live.
