February 21st marks International Mother Language Day. The primary objective of observing this day is to underscore the significance of the mother tongue, ensure its preservation, and transmit our cultural heritage and traditions to future generations. Currently, the most significant challenge facing the Dhivehi language is the increasing prevalence of linguistic mixing with foreign languages. Consequently, the greatest contribution one can make to the language is to communicate in pure and accurate Dhivehi. Instilling a profound appreciation for the language through the education system is vital for effective communication and social cohesion within the community.
Dhivehi is a beautiful language, enriched by diverse dialects and its own unique script. As our national identity and culture are best expressed through this language, it is imperative to revitalize Dhivehi and pass this invaluable heritage on to successive generations.
