An agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to establish bonded zone services at the Addu City Hithadhoo Port. Minister Mohamed Saeed highlighted that this initiative is a crucial step towards realizing the President’s vision of developing Addu into a major commercial hub.
Under this system, construction materials, containerized cargo, and perishable goods can be stored at the Kulhudhuffushi and Hithadhoo ports without the immediate payment of customs duties. Furthermore, the government revealed that the massive project to relocate the Male’ Commercial Port to Thilafushi is currently underway, with the transition expected to be fully completed by November 2027.
