Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, announced that the distribution of textbooks for the new academic year to all schools will be completed by the 10th of next month. The Ministry of Education commenced the dispatch of these essential textbooks to students on the 6th of this month.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu confirmed that the textbook distribution process is actively underway. He further elaborated that textbooks have already been sent to more than 40 schools. The Minister assured that the dispatch of textbooks to all schools nationwide will be finalized before January 10th. Additionally, the Ministry is also in the process of distributing stationery vouchers to students.
The Minister also mentioned that a key objective is to complete the distribution of student report forms by the end of the current academic year. The present academic year is scheduled to conclude, and the long school holiday will commence next Thursday.
The Ministry of Education’s overarching goal is to ensure that all students receive their textbooks before schools reopen. Annual renovation and refurbishment of school facilities are routine preparations for each new academic year. In this regard, the Minister previously stated that MVR 40 million has been allocated for preparations for the upcoming academic year. Furthermore, the aim is to ensure that all classrooms across the Maldives are air-conditioned by the start of the new academic year. The first school developed by the current government in Hulhumalé Phase II, “Shaheed Ali” School, is also set to open its doors for the new academic year.
The new academic year is scheduled to begin on January 27th. The first term’s mid-break will be from May 24th to 30th, and the holiday following the first term will run from July 17th to August 1st. According to the academic calendar, the second term for the upcoming year will commence on August 2nd, with the long holiday after the second term spanning from December 18th until January 12th, 2027. Classes for the academic year 2027 will then resume on January 17th.
