The government of Singapore has stated that the threat of a terrorist attack on Singapore remains high. A report released by Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs said that while Jews are carrying out aggressive attacks on Gaza, Palestine, the impact of this aggression has affected the whole world. It also noted that extremist ideologies are still spreading rapidly. The report highlighted that due to these reasons, the threat of terrorism has increased. Although there is no information about an imminent attack against Singapore, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that the ISIS group is working to gain advantages using the Gaza aggression. The report also noted that the group is encouraging violence in this situation.

Since the Jews began the Gaza aggression on October 7, 2023, the report states that six Singaporean citizens were preparing to support extremist ideologies and participate in armed attacks. The statement also mentioned that Singapore and its interests are subjects of interest to terrorists and extremists. The main reason for this, according to the statement, is Singapore’s close relationship with Western countries and Jews, as well as the presence of famous buildings in Singapore. Additionally, the report highlighted that Singapore being a country with religious freedom and a diverse population of different cultures is also a factor that facilitates terrorism.

The Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs further stated that the internet is also exposing people to extremist ideologies, and that young people are becoming inclined towards such ideologies. Since 2015, Singapore has used its Internal Security Act against 17 youths aged 20. The law was most recently used against two teenagers. One of the teenagers planned to attack a mosque. The second teenager was planning to join the ISIS group. This law allows for the detention of suspects for long periods without trial. It also orders restrictions on travel and internet use. The report further stated that artificial intelligence (AI) is also a medium that facilitates terrorism.
