The Prosecutor General’s Office has filed charges at the Criminal Court against Dr. Ali Abdulla Latheef and Dr. Ikleel Shareef for alleged tax evasion involving income generated from PCR testing during the COVID-19 pandemic. An investigation by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) revealed that Island Health Solutions and Pioneer Maldives evaded taxes exceeding MVR 20 million. Consequently, in addition to tax evasion, charges of obstructing the administration of law have also been pressed. If convicted, the PG Office has requested the court to fine the companies double the amount evaded, totaling MVR 40.4 million, and to impose the maximum legal penalties on the individuals involved.
