Mohamed Nazir (Sunland Nazir), one of the shareholders of Sunland Hotels, has passed away. He passed away while receiving treatment for an illness in the United Kingdom. Born in S. Hulhudhoo, Nazir was a prominent figure who made significant contributions to the development of the tourism industry in the Maldives. In 1976, during a time when backpackers were coming to the Maldives for diving, he started marketing the Maldives by opening a family travel agency called “Sunland”.
Nazir, who was the Director of “Coco Collection Resort Brands” under Sunland Hotels, was also experienced in the field of marketing. Nazir was also the Trade Ambassador appointed by the Maldives to the United Kingdom. Nazir was the elder brother of the former Islamic Minister, the late Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari.
