STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, has announced that they have begun installing additional generators to meet the increased electricity demand during this year’s Ramadan. This work is being carried out in Hulhumale’.
Providing information about this project, Fahmy stated that household electricity consumption increases during Ramadan. Last year’s Ramadan peak consumption reached 114 megawatts. This year, the company estimates that peak consumption will reach 132 megawatts, marking an increase of 17 megawatts.
Fahmy said that STELCO is currently preparing for this increase and the work will be completed before Ramadan begins. “We are currently working in Hulhumale’ to install an additional 17 megawatts for the hot season coinciding with Ramadan. We started this work a bit late because we only received the land last Thursday. However, STELCO has made all necessary preparations for this,” Fahmy said.
STELCO’s MD Fahmy stated that they have already received the required transformers, engines, and cables for this project. He said that within the next 8 days, they will install the engines and begin providing services. Fahmy assured that there won’t be any need to cut power due to lack of capacity during this Ramadan. STELCO is installing two 13-megawatt generators at this location.
STELCO has appealed to customers to conserve electricity. They especially urge households to significantly reduce electricity consumption during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
