Twenty-six Western countries have called on Israel to immediately halt the genocide being carried out against the Muslims of Gaza, stating that the Palestinian people in Gaza are facing an “unimaginably”unimaginably” dire and miserable situation. The countries calling for an end to the inhumane crimes being committed with the help and support of US President Donald Trump include Western powers such as the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as Australia. The foreign ministers of 26 Western powers have issued a statement condemning the humanitarian catastrophe Israel has inflicted on the people of Gaza. The statement primarily calls for an immediate end to the inhumane crimes being committed to starve the 2.2 million people living in Gaza, and for Israel to remove the obstacles it has placed on bringing food and humanitarian aid into the area.
“Starvation is unfolding before our eyes. Immediate steps are needed to save the lives of those who are starving. We call on the Israeli government to immediately provide humanitarian organizations the opportunity to bring in aid supplies and to remove the barriers to their operations [in Gaza],” the statement urges. The statement, signed by the foreign ministers of 26 countries, also calls for opening all possible routes for bringing aid into Gaza. “All regional barriers and routes need to be used to bring aid supplies, food, nutritious items, shelter materials, fuel, clean drinking water, medicine, and medical supplies into Gaza,” the statement demands.
While many people in Gaza are being martyred due to starvation caused by the lack of sufficient food, Israel continues to work on evading responsibility for this situation and making excuses. Although Israel has accused the ruling Hamas group of looting and stealing the food supplies entering Gaza, those who analyze the situation believe that armed groups supported by Israel are behind such crimes. Under international pressure, Israel opened the opportunity to bring a small amount of food and aid supplies into Gaza last month. However, Western powers said this was not enough to save the lives of those starving in Gaza.
The countries that have signed the statement against Israel include Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The foreign ministers of Italy and Latvia have also signed the statement later. Many of these countries maintain close relations with Israel and are allies of the United States, Israel’s biggest supporter. Germany and Hungary are among the countries that have refused to sign the statement.
