The Maldives has begun issuing 90-day on-arrival visas to Sri Lankan nationals visiting the country. Immigration officials stated that this decision was made following discussions between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe during the latter’s inaugural state visit to the Maldives. As of yesterday, Sri Lankan nationals can now obtain a 90-day on-arrival visa when entering the Maldives.

Immigration officials noted that Maldivians traveling to Sri Lanka have been receiving 90-day on-arrival visas since January of this year. They also emphasized that these decisions reflect the close relationship between the two countries. While the Maldives has extended the visa duration for Sri Lankans, Sri Lanka has also arranged for spouses of Maldivians working or pursuing higher education in Sri Lanka to receive one-year visas. Furthermore, Sri Lanka has announced that starting next month, they will begin issuing one-year visas to Maldivians.
