Sri Lanka is a Reliable Country in Regional Fisheries Management: Minister of Fisheries

Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has stated that Sri Lanka is a reliable country in fisheries development and regional fisheries management. The Minister made this statement while sharing information about the discussions held in connection with the Sri Lankan President’s visit to the Maldives. Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, said that Sri Lanka is a trusted partner in fisheries development and regional fisheries management, especially in the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), where the two countries have worked closely together for a long time. The Minister also mentioned that the Maldives and Sri Lanka have worked together to sustainably use the marine resources of the region and have advocated for the interests of the countries in this area.

Minister Shiyam highlighted the strong relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in regional maritime security and safety. He also noted the interest in collaborating on new areas such as mariculture and broader fisheries development. The Minister expressed hope for constructive discussions with Sri Lanka to promote a sustainable and secure Indian Ocean.

The Sri Lankan President arrived in the Maldives on Monday. During this visit, discussions were held on areas where the two countries could strengthen their relationships. This included talks on strengthening ties in trade and economic sectors. The discussions also covered areas of development and ensuring the security of the maritime region.
