Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Emp Sports and Community Empowerment, Abdullah Rafiu, has congratulated the Maldives senior and under-21 national netball teams on their success in two tournaments held in Hong Kong.
The senior national team won the bronze medal in the Hong Kong Challenge Cup 25, while the under-21 national team secured the bronze medal in the Hong Kong Bauhinia Cup.
The Minister met with the players, coaches, and officials of the teams yesterday at the Ministry of Sports. He praised the players for their efforts and wished them success in upcoming tournaments.
In the Hong Kong Challenge Cup, which took place from June 5-8 in Hong Kong, the Maldives senior netball team finished as runners-up, with Hong Kong winning the championship. Hong Kong is ranked fourth in Asia in netball.
The Maldives under-21 netball team secured third place in the Hong Kong Bauhinia Cup after defeating Chinese Taipei. Apart from the Maldives, the other countries that participated in this tournament were the host country Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, and India.
