The opening ceremony of the National Shooting Championship was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Sports, Mohamed Talal.

The ceremony, held on Thursday night at the Youth Center auditorium, was also attended by the General Secretary of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, and senior officials from the Shooting Association.

This tournament, aimed at promoting shooting in the Maldives and nurturing young athletes in this sport, is being held open to the public for the second year.

Shooters will compete in four categories in this tournament. These include the Professional category, which is specifically for shooters in the national team and athletes who have previously competed in international tournaments as part of the national team; the Open category, which is open to individuals over 12 years of age; the Junior category, which is for those between 16 and 21 years old; and the Youth category, which is specifically for children between 12 and 16 years of age.

This tournament was also held last year and proved to be very popular. While about 400 shooters participated in last year’s tournament, due to space constraints, only 370 athletes were given the opportunity to compete.
