President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that, effective today, health insurance coverage has been extended to 385 athletes and officials from 18 national sports associations in the Maldives. This initiative marks the fulfillment of a key presidential pledge, providing long-awaited relief to the sporting community after years of anticipation.
The newly launched insurance scheme ensures comprehensive health security for Maldivian athletes, covering medical treatments for injuries sustained during competitions and training sessions, both locally and abroad. To address previous administrative challenges where squad changes hindered insurance provision, the system has been restructured. Instead of individual-based coverage, insurance is now allocated to a specified number of slots per association, ensuring a seamless and sustainable solution for the athletes.
