The United States Special Envoy, Sergio Gao, has today commenced an official visit to the Maldives and Sri Lanka. The primary objective of this mission is to bolster regional security within the Indian Ocean and to further strengthen the bilateral security and economic ties between the two nations. This visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United States. During his visit, the Envoy will engage in high-level discussions with senior Maldivian officials to explore avenues for cooperation in infrastructure development and security initiatives.
