At a time when efforts are being made to improve relations with North Korea, South Korea has begun removing loudspeakers used for criticizing North Korea near the border area. Since Lee Jae-myung took office as the President of South Korea last June, the loudspeakers used for broadcasting criticism against North Korea along the border between the two countries have been turned off. In a statement released by South Korea’s Ministry of Defense, it was said that the decision to remove these loudspeakers was made to resolve the tension the tension between the two countries and pave the way for dialogue.
However, North Korea has stated that it has no interest in engaging in any dialogue with South Korea. South Korea also removed these loudspeakers in 2018. But when former President Yoon Suk-yeol came to power, the loudspeakers were reinstalled, and broadcasts criticizing North Korea were resumed.
Since the broadcasts were halted by South Korea from last June, North Korea has also stopped its broadcasts against South Korea.
