Maldivian Blood Services has stated that six children with thalassemia have returned to the Maldives after successfully completing bone marrow transplants at government expense. According to a post made today on “X” by Maldivian Blood Services, six children have successfully undergone bone marrow transplants abroad with their assistance and have returned to the Maldives. The post also states that this demonstrates their continued commitment to improving care for children with thalassemia.
This government has sent 14 children for bone marrow transplants last year. The government has decided that, with the help of the Zakat Fund, 10 children will be sent abroad each year for bone marrow transplants. Work has already begun to select the 10 children to be sent this year under this program. Among the children who have applied for bone marrow transplants, tests are currently being conducted to identify those whose health conditions are suitable.
This is one of the promises included in this government’s 100 pledges. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised to arrange sustainable free bone marrow transplants for thalassemia children.
