The Chinese Ambassador to the M Chinese Ambassador
The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, has stated that the Sinamalé Bridge is an engineering feat that transformed the lives and economy of Maldivians. The Ambassador made this statement in a post on X (formerly Twitter) in relation to the President’s designation of August 30th, the day the Sinamalé Bridge was inaugurated, as Maldives Engineers’ Day. The Ambassador said that he travels near the Sinamalé Bridge twice a day. He stated that the bridge is the result of hard work by Chinese and Maldivian engineers, and that this work has transformed the lives and economy of Maldivians.
“Engineers don’t just build projects. They also bring progress to people’s lives and society. Therefore, they deserve respect and honor,” the Ambassador said. Starting this year, the President designated August 30th as “Maldives Engineers’ Day” to be celebrated nationally every year. According to a statement released by the President’s Office, August 30th was chosen as Maldives Engineers’ Day because it is the date in August when the Sinamalé Bridge, the largest infrastructure development project in the country’s history to date, was inaugurated, and because it is the most appropriate day to mark as Engineers’ Day.
The statement also mentioned that all activities related to the celebration of Maldives Engineers’ Day will be carried out by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.”
